NHI BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The board of trustees primarily consists of NHI alumni with professional backgrounds in business, law, medicine, and the professional sector. In addition to their regular duties as policy makers, these individuals are actively involved in the organization’s summer programs, many of them serving as training faculty. Several also serve at local community levels with the Institute’s freshman leadership projects.

A particular feature that makes the work of the trustees distinctive is their long history of knowing one another. Most initially met while in high school and continued their involvement as program volunteers throughout their undergraduate and graduate studies. Others served as summer interns, often playing multiple roles in shaping the NHI’s work, in some cases for as many as 25 to 30 years.

As a highly involved governing authority, NHI board members serve in numerous program advisory capacities and as generous donors to the organization’s Hispanic Youth Fund. Among their priorities for the future are a broader participation of NHI alumni through local groups and a community ambassador program. Other board projects include Celebración, the organization’s international showcase of ideas generated by young Latino minds, and expanding NHI’s partnerships with national and international Latino organizations. Board membership expansion is an important initiative as the trustees move to add representation from new communities where the organization plans to establish programs.
