Collegiate World Series: Coach
The Collegiate World Series (CWS) is a NHI leadership program that has been specifically designed for rising high school seniors. It creates a private, personalized setting for participants to receive training in preparation for the college experience. Through the CWS, participants gain valuable insight into the dynamics of college life.
The CWS program also is designed to deliver high quality training in college admissions and financial aid, addressing concerns such as: selecting the right college and how college impacts leadership development. Although we are dedicated to providing students with a solid foundation on the college admissions and financial aid process, the CWS also works with students to reframe their understanding of higher education and its role in their development as future leaders in the Latino community.
College Register members have the opportunity to sign up as a “coach”. Coaches will meet students, recruit a team and personally train their team to succeed in the college admissions process. Typically, a coach has 10-15 students on their team. At the CWS, coaches prepare and conduct simple presentations on interviews, obtaining letters of recommendation, evaluating financial aid, writing essays, and filling out the common application for the entire program cohort. Coaches are also a part of skits and interviews so they must bring a lot of energy and their A-game!
“I am NHI. NHI and the CWS embody everything that I am and believe in. As a coach, it means I can help amazing Latino/a students through the college process, knowing that those students will be the future of our community. As a CWS alumna, I know that the program helped me through the college application process. It helped me understand what it takes to get into a highly selective university, and I was better prepared because of it. And now as an admissions director, I recognize that the value of an NHI experience will translate to success on a college campus. NHI and the CWS helped me become the person I am today.”

This summer, coaches who serve for CWSx will have the opportunity to work closely with a group of 10-12 rising high school seniors on important portions of the college application process including: the application, personal essay, college application resume, and the admissions/scholarship interview.
The CWS program limits the number of college coaches to ensure small teams of students. If your institution is a College Register member and you would like to coach a CWSx program, please sign up no later than May 31, 2020 (please do note that coaching slots may run out prior to this date).
If your college or university is not currently a member of the College Register, please sign-up or renew your institution’s membership before signing up to coach a CWS program.
