Do you like math, statistics or finance? Do you enjoy solving complex, real-world problems? You may have what it takes to become an actuary.
The actuarial profession consistently ranks as one of the best jobs for its high salary, good work-life balance and opportunities to move up. Actuaries work in the finance and insurance sector, and they often rank high in job satisfaction. As any other high-skilled job, the educational path you choose for your college years may be an advantage in becoming an actuary.
Join us on February 25th at OLA’s High School Actuarial Webinar to hear about the profession. You will learn from college students and professionals in the industry on what an actuary is and what it takes to become one.
The Organization of Latino Actuaries (OLA) is a non-profit whose mission is to increase the number of Latino Actuaries by promoting the profession and providing guidance, mentorship and networking opportunities. At OLA we offer programs and scholarships for aspiring actuaries who are interested in the actuarial profession.
CWSx is the National Hispanic Institute’s (NHI) capstone experience for high school juniors preparing for their senior year. Created 30 years ago, it aims to provide future leaders as much insight and practice as possible to prepare for the transition to adulthood, with an emphasis on both college readiness and leadership development.
Getting coached for success in the college admissions process is only one part of making decisions about your future; making a final institutional selection based on your life goals and values requires a different lens. The CWSx addresses the emotional and psychological factors that impact life plans by providing a process for decision-making called Inquiry Based Learning. Using this process, students team up to take on complex challenges and use inquiry-based processes to offer strategic plans for their future goals. CWSx graduates are considered high potential candidates for future faculty roles with NHI, as they are students of the inquiry process used by NHI leaders to evolve new program experiences, ideas, and concepts in community social entrepreneurship.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
Since 1982, high ability, high achieving 10th and 11th grade students have graduated from the competitive and transformative Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Session (LDZ) experience designed for future community leaders. Students form a cohort of 150 delegates ages 16-17 in community positions that propose, review, and adopt policies to advance the Latino community. The week-long quest covers a broad array of skills, competencies, personal growth opportunities, social relevance, and topics of national and international relevance to Latino quality of life.
This year, NHI will host three in-person LDZ programs and one digital LDZx (virtual) and will primarily serve former Great Debate and GDx students. For more information on availability for new NHI members, please email admissions@nhimail.com.
